International Songwriting Collaborations
Play Music on the Porch Day InternationalSongwriting Collaborations bring together musicians from a variety of locations to collaborate. The time and talent given to this project by the musicians involved speaks to the desire of people to reach across all boundaries to create together. We hope these are just the first of many songs to be written in this series and we are actively seeking musicians to participate. Thanks again to all the musicians involved for creating this beautiful song!
Here’s what a few of the artists had to say about this project.
J.D. WILKES I’m honored to be a part of this great idea from Play Music On The Porch Day. Combining cultures and musical styles into one recording session, and have it done remotely via the internet, should be an idea that spreads. I particularly enjoyed hearing the song “Relieve Me!” from Gwevedzi opened up for me to hear for the first time, wrapping my head around the time signature and then rifling through my harmonicas to find the right key. Such a fascinating moment of discovery! Thank goodness the same technologies that create destruction can also bring our worlds together, even from 10,000 miles away no less!
GWEVEDEZI AFRO-ACOUSTIC We had an exciting experience working with JD. It also was an adventurous project in our careers as we got join two types of music to bring one solid song which is also an amazing result. I was also an honor to be part of a project bringing to cities together as well as nations at large.
